Nuggets Offseason Moves

The Denver Nuggets have opened NBA free agency with some huge moves to help this team improve. Shortly after free agency began, the Denver Nuggets traded Michael Porter Jr and a 2032 unprotected first round pick for Cameron Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets. Shortly after that the Nuggets brought back Bruce Brown who was a very significant piece on that 2023 championship run. Starting with the move for Cam Johnson, the Nuggets were not only able to save $12 million by getting rid of Michael Porter Jr, but they were able to get a great replacement in return.

Cam Johnson

Cam is a 29-year-old forward who can drive to the hoop, hit any type of shot, but he can also play decent defense. In 2025, Cam Johnson averaged 18.8 points per game on 47.5/39.0/89.1 shooting splits along with 4.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Cam is coming over from a very messy situation in Brooklyn, where there's no clear direction. He will be joining a Nikola Jokic-led lineup and a team to where he just must play his role. He also brings playoff experience having made the playoffs 3 times, making the Finals in 2021.  Another thing is his contract. Michael Porter Jr is set to make almost $80 million over the next 2 years whereas Cam Johnson is set to make $44 million over the next 2 years.

Shortly after the trade, the Nuggets went out and signed a familiar face, Bruce Brown to a one-year veteran minimum. Bruce was a part of the 2023 championship team and was a very valuable piece in the run. During the regular season, Brown put up career-year type numbers, but the playoffs is when he really made a difference. During those playoffs, Brown averaged 12.0 points per game while shooting 51.1% from the field along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. He was most valuable because he was the reason we would have bench scoring and wouldn’t get killed in the non-Jokic minutes. After that season, he went and signed a big 2-year deal, now 2 years later the 28-year-old guard is returning and looking to repeat what happened in 2023.

This is all thanks to the co-GMs in Ben Tenzer and Jon Wallace. Denver fans are excited and believe this team will have a good shot at winning another championship.

Denver was starting to lose hope after the old GM Calvin Booth, struggled to make the right moves while he was here. He made moves, such as signing Zeke Nnaji and Michael Porter Jr to their horrible extensions, making questionable draft choices in guys like Peyton Watson. The main things he struggled with were free agency and trade. Signing guys like Dario Saric to meaningless deals and making trades, like Reggie Jackson and 3 second-round picks for cash and then didn’t do anything with that cash. How do you guys feel about what our GMs have done this offseason? Do you guys believe in winning another ring next year?
